Read: Questions of Home by Raziyah Heath

            Sunday Nov 3rd 2024

Raziyah Heath is an independent curator (a.o at Metro54), programmer, curious cat, hater, organizer, killjoy, lover, DJ and artist. At the moment she mainly delves into sonic realms/dimensions, and uses DJing under the name Chinnamasta as a medium for research and discoveries.

Their work aims to uncover the cross pollinations of Afro-diasporic (sub)cultures and sonic threads and centralizes the variations, range and intersectionality of lived experiences as a result of this.

In 2024, U? collaborates with five different NL-based curators who will highlight their communities and creativity. On Saturday, 9 November at NAR, Raziyah Heath organizes an event that explores the question of "Home" for those who are often disenfranchised in society within the communities that she embodies.

Raziyah's program starts with two film screenings: MOSQUITO, a short film by one of her close friends: the Amsterdam based, Brazilian-born producer and vocalist LYZZA; and Lunar New Year, a short film by S*an D. Henry-Smith, showing the unraveling of a midwinter’s day in New York City. After the film screenings, there will be a collective conversation where people can provide input: they can bring songs that they want to share, excerpts of books, poetry, or anything else.

the photo takes place in what look like a restaurant setting in which two young people are talking to each other, one is sitting in front of the bar, while the other is standing behind the bar.

"I'm just really grateful to be able to share space with all these beautiful people from all these different geographies."

Furthermore, Raziyah presents live performances by poet, photographer, performer and collaborative practitioner, S*an D. Henry-Smith, who engages the legacy of Black diasporic experimentalisms; Dumama, a multifaceted musician, composer, sonic poet, researcher, curator and creative producer from the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa; and Illnoledge, two brothers whose craft is an embodiment of their philosophy of the close relationship between music and spirituality, putting the focus on Black cultural heritage. There will also be a premiere: YoungWoman, the Amsterdam-based Egyptian DJ, producer and cofounder of Amsterdam’s first T4T Collective, Los Angles, is going to perform live for the very first time.

"I've tried to ask every performer or every person involved to do something that's maybe a little bit different to what they usually do, to share a certain vulnerability or a certain expression that maybe they haven't been able to express in different spaces."

During this program, there will be a collective moment of sharing space together, eating and sharing thoughts. The food will be provided by Sanaa’s Kitchen: a nostalgic Egyptian feast, featuring falafel–a hallmark recipe and relic that has been passed down through generations of the owners family. But Sanaa's Kitchen is more than just food, it's also underpinned by a community that brings together people from all walks of life, and unites them over their shared love for flavorsome falafel and fond memories.

After the free daytime program, Questions of Home moves into the night with a club program to release and express all that was discussed, felt and thought during the day. During this club night, Raziyah presents Tempest, the multi-genre DJ who was raised in Curaçao and is based in the Netherlands, YoungWoman, London/Kingston based artist, DJ and co-founder of the influential collective BBZ London Sippin T, and Raziyah herself under the name of Chinnamasta.

Visitors who are present before 10 PM can also stay for free for the club night afterwards. Do you only want to visit the club night? Then you need to purchase a ticket via NAR.
