For LGW22, Baltimore quartet Animal Collective curated a program featuring their inspirations and fellow like-minded artists. Animal Collective themselves unfortunately had to cancel their performance, but instead, we were very pleased to welcome Panda Bear & Sonic Boom to the festival.
For their curation they invited a.o. rising star in lo-fi and avant-garde R&B, Liv.e, Lebanese producer and hybrid DJ Liliane Chlela; Lisbon-based artist Maria Reis; and Tokyo-based tribal-psych trio Kuunatic.

The Staples Jr. Singers, by Melanie Marsman
In 1975, family group The Staples Jr. Singers released their first and only album: ‘When Do We Get Paid’ - recorded when the gospel band’s youngest members were in their early teenage years. In May 2022, David Byrne’s Luaka Bop reissued the record. During Le Guess Who? 2022, the group performed live for the first time in 40 years – and for the first time ever outside of the Mississippi Delta.

During Le Guess Who? 2022, our residential photographer Juri Hiensch documented a program hosted by Kampala-based label Nyege Nyege, focusing on African high tempo electronic music.
The club night at BASIS featured performances of DJ Travella who’s driving Tanzania's breakneck dance sound into fresh, innovative spaces; Mali-based DJ and radio animator Diaki Kone; roving punk ethnomusicologist Judgitzu; DJ Top Klas, who is now based in London after a successful DJ career in St. Lucia; and dancer, DJ, music producer, photo- & videographer from Uganda, CRAZYMIND. Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids: 50th Anniversary Celebration, by Melanie Marsman
Idris Ackamoor has revived his legendary afro-jazz band The Pyramids before, but never quite like this. During Le Guess Who? 2022, Ackamoor celebrated his 50th year as a performer with the group, first formed in 1972.

Hidden Musics, by Melanie Marsman & Juri Hiensch
Hidden Musics is aimed at deeply localized music and features performances of musicians embedded in rich, often centuries-old musical traditions that have been developed with little or no outside influences.
This year, Hidden Musics featured the Algerian duo of ‘mistress of voice’ Cheikha Rabia and dancer Esraa Warda; Nancy Mounir, an undeniable force in Egypt's alternative music scene; Lole Montoya, a true innovator of flamenco; The Master Musicians of Jajouka, a collective of Jbala Sufi trance makers from Morocco, led by Bachir Attar; and Burkina Faso’s Kaito Winse, a message-bearer for his ancestors' spiritual artistry using traditional instruments.

West Coast hip-hop trio clipping. not only delivered an overwhelming performance at Le Guess Who? 2022, they also curated a personal and eclectic program for the festival.
Their program featured a.o. Jamaican-American rapper and producer Zebra Katz; Chicago native DJ Jana Rush; DJ, producer and co-founder of NON Records Nkisi; Paris-based sound designer Aho Ssan; London DJ Manuka Honey; and Tampa rap duo They Hate Change.
