King or prince, this plate spinner’s name is always preceded with a royal title for good measure. The Jamaica-born dub mixer and record producer got his start as a dub master at King Tubby’s studio, later graduating into making his own sound system. Recognized as one of the most important producers in dancehall, King Jammy’s biggest hit, 1985’s smash ‘Under Me Sleng Teng’ by Wayne Smith, earned him the credit of being the first to introduce ‘digital rhythm’ to reggae.
