Ghalia Benali in Hadret Ishq

Tunisian-Belgian artist Ghalia Benali has been on the receiving end of many descriptors - ‘Carthage’s Aretha Franklin’, ‘Wind’s Daughter’, ‘Ambassador of The Arab Culture’, to name a few -  but perhaps none as fitting as ‘a maker of her own myths’, as said by the New York Times. This is because Benali’s dual upbringing (which saw the singer, dancer, and designer grow up between Brussels and South Tunisia) reflects directly on her genre-defining musical work.
