Galya Bisengalieva
Uncloud presents (2021)
It has been speculated how the current environmental crisis we face will inspire musicians, the same way warfare and social justice have. Perhaps no current artist embodies this prediction as heartily as Kazakh-British composer and violinist Galya Bisengalieva, whose latest record, ‘Aralkum’, is a harrowing tale of destruction (but also hinting at a hopeful future), focused on the shrinking of the Aral Sea. Bisengalieva’s cold, pensive drone on the killing of nature cuts deeper than a thousand speeches.
