Since 2022, Le Guess Who? partners with the Nature and Environment Federation Utrecht to offset CO2 emissions from international air travel by artists and visitors.
Thanks to the collaboration in 2024, we're able to support five Repair Cafés in Utrecht. These cafés are places where people can work together with volunteers to repair broken items or equipment to give them a second life. In addition, these cafés are also important social meeting places for local residents.
CO2 compensation
In 2024, visitors of Le Guess Who? again had the option to compensate the CO2 emissions of their trip to Utrecht when buying their festival ticket. Additionally, Le Guess Who? itself annually compensates CO2 emissions from air travel of festival artists.
These combined funds were invested in a local sustainability project together with the Nature and Environment Federation Utrecht. This NGO is committed to a beautiful, healthy and sustainable province of Utrecht, with a beautiful landscape, rich nature and clean environment.
Repair Cafés
Nature and Environment Federation Utrecht visited the five Repair Cafés who received a donation to see how they invested it in their cafés. For example, Repair Café Bilthoven, one of the oldest cafés in Utrecht, purchased a new second-hand sewing machine, Repair Café Den Dolder invested in improving safety for their staff by purchasing professional magnifying glasses, fire extinguishers, a fire bucket and a fire blanket, and Repair Café Bunnik used the donation to open a second repair café in their municipality, Repair Café Odijk.
Besides supporting repair cafés, we were also able to contribute to the launch of a repair desk in shopping mall Hoog Catharijne. Bas, the founder of this repair desk, stresses how important he thinks the sustainable idea behind repair cafés is:
Sustainability
In 2022, Le Guess Who?'s CO2 compensation was invested in the planting of 3000 trees, and in 2023, we realized a sustainable roof at Hof van Cartesius, a unique circular workspace for creative entrepreneurs in Utrecht.
Le Guess Who? has published a Sustainability Manifesto on its website to provide more insight into the ways in which the organization is committed to making the festival more sustainable.
