COSMOS presents Baltic Rehearsals

Le Guess Who?'s hybrid platform COSMOS presents Baltic Rehearsals, a residency project that celebrates new music from Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. Initiated by COSMOS Embassy ICRN (Independent Community Radio Network), alongside two of its member stations, Tīrkultūra and IDA, the project brings together four pairs of artists to produce new music; all of whom are deeply connected to the local experimental music scenes of these cities.

The collaborations will unfold as summer residencies, featuring rehearsals, broadcasts and local concerts in each Baltic capital. At the festival, the results can be experienced daily as part of the COSMOS program, through solo and collaborative performances broadcast live via Refuge Worldwide. A compilation album and physical release will follow early next year.

Festival news COSMOS

The artists teaming up for this project are Sign Libra, who creates songs with reverb-soaked vocals and carefully blended synth plugin presets, with stalwart of the Estonian club scene and music hardware-head Robert Nikolajev; and Latvian sound and visual artist Spāre with Estonian electronic artist Roma Vjazemski, who started his career as a hip-hop producer but later shifted his focus to ambient-leaning downtempo soundscapes.

Furthermore, Latvian sound artist and musician R_R_ with Lithuanian pianist, composer and sound artist Gintė Preisaitė; and Lithuanian producer Teatre, who navigates the undercurrents of the electronic underground, with Estonian singer, violinist and electronic composer Maarja Nuut.

Radio show on Refuge Worldwide

On Tuesday, 18 August, from 6 - 10PM CEST, Refuge Worldwide airs a special edition of the COSMOS monthly show to announce Baltic Rehearsals. Compiled by Michael Holland (Onotesla, NTS), each hour explores one of the four duos, with tracks from their back catalogue and a conversation about their approach to sound and music.
