French sound sculptor Félicia Atkinson once curiously speculated that “music always existed, even before humans appeared." She might be onto something: under her spell, a seemingly random assembly of natural forces, whispered dialogue, and sparse midi electronics becomes a harmonic wellspring, augmenting the beauty of what’s already present. Atkinson’s new album The Flower And The Vessel is partly influenced by the French classical pieces that shaped her childhood, and features a notable guest appearance by Sunn O)))’s Stephen O’ Malley.
