In 2020, Cape Town, South Africa-based drummer Asher Gamedze found himself in Cairo assembling a quintet made up of some of the capital’s finest improvisers; Maurice Louca, Alan Bishop, Cherif El-Masri, and Adham Zidan. Another Time Ensemble had come to be. Their first performance together was released as ‘Another Side’ on Gamedze’s ‘Turbulence and Pulse’ in 2022, and later as a standalone digital EP. The group perceives music and time as manifold, and soundtrack the thought that another time is possible. Their playing is so immersive we might be in it already.
