Le Guess Who? is proud to welcome both artists and visitors of many different nationalities to Utrecht each year. In collaboration with SPEAK, we started a new video series in which Utrechters with foreign roots introduce an artist on the Le Guess Who? 2021 line-up from their country.

SPEAK connects locals, newcomers and migrants in the city of Utrecht, by organizing language courses and other cultural events. In this video, Carlos Tapias & Camila Duarte introduce the eccentric Colombian musician Julián Mayorga, who transformed his learnings in electroacoustics and algorithmic composition into inquisitive, hyper-active records.

"In the coast of the country, in the north part, they use a specific type of braid for sombreros, and he uses it to represent the urraca, that is a type of beard. So the way he plays with that in his music video is very nice."

Julián Mayorga will perform at Le Guess Who? 2021 as part of the program curated by Lucrecia Dalt. Other artists that are performing as part of her curation are a.o. Chúpame El Dedo, Sea Urchin, Don The Tiger, Víctor Herrero, Tarta Relena, Felix Kubin, and more.
