For the August episodes of COSMOS' monthly show on Refuge Worldwide, we’re exploring fresh new sounds from Georgia and return to Iceland for another dispatch from Seyðisfjörður. Tune in on 18 August, from 5-7 PM (CEST), at refugeworldwide.com.
JD J, Mutant Radio (Tbilisi/Berlin)
Our friends from Mutant Radio have been part of COSMOS since the very beginning. Here, they've enlisted their long-time staple JD J to present an hour of new sounds from Georgia. JD J aka Jaba Ujmajuridze — Tbilisi-born, now Berlin-based — has been a pivotal figure in Georgia’s music scene for over a decade, curating the Out Of Whack show on Mutant Radio and running a party series of the same name. A dedicated digger with deep historical insight, he weaves rare and unconventional sounds into boundary-pushing explorations of rhythm and texture.
The cover photo was taken by J DJ in Kutaisi, Georgia. It shows the ceramic panel located at the entrance of the Kutaisi Central Bazaar, called The Kolkheti Relief, also known as the Kutaisi Market Relief, by Bernard Nebieridze.
Seyðisfjörður Community Radio (Seyðisfjörður, Iceland)
Our COSMOS Embassy 2025 Seyðisfjörður Community Radio is a shared digital and analogue broadcasting platform located in the village of Seyðisfjörður on the east coast of Iceland. Grown out of the independent art school LungA School, Seyðisfjörður Community Radio is a platform for an open-ended international community of artists, who share, inquire and keep in touch through the radio. “We send. We listen. We send. We listen.” Words to live by.
This month, we're presenting the second instalment of "Dispatch to COSMOS", a six episode series mixing and re-materialising the archive of Seyðisfjörður Community Radio into autonomous sound-worlds. If you like what you hear, you can find the first dispatch episode here.
