COSMOS is back behind the decks of Refuge Worldwide. This time, Chinese music experts bié Records play new sounds from Beijing and beyond, while painter and experimental musician Garth Erasmus presents the newest wave of improvised music from South Africa.
bié Records – Beijing & Beyond
bié Records is a record label and music platform from Beijing, China, founded and run by Meng Jinhui. In this one-hour mix, he offers a glimpse into the diverse and constantly evolving music coming out of China today. Each of the artists featured here has a much bigger story and body of work waiting to be discovered – a window into a scene that is much wider, stranger, and more diverse than you might expect.
Garth Erasmus – The Manmantis Mix
Garth Erasmus is a visual artist and musician from South Africa. Combining his main practices with an interest in his personal cultural heritage, he started building his own music gear, inspired by the ancient instruments of the Khoisan (South Africa’s non-Bantu indigenous people). For his hour, Garth presents fresh new acts from South Africa that are currently making waves on the jazz, experimental and improvised music scene.
