Mutabaruka
24 HOUR DUB
Jamaican dub poet, musician, radio host and cultural activist Mutabaruka established his legacy by performing his cutting edge lines at reggae festivals across the world. Widely recognized for razor-sharp social commentary and Rastafari advocacy, he rose to prominence with his 1983 debut album Check It, blending the urgency of street poetry with upstrokes and riddims. Mutabaruka joins 24 HOUR DUB with a poetry session, presenting his work that confronts political oppression and affirms African identity. His ethos is captured in words like “Dis poem shall call names names / and I shall call black people black people”, and he extends that same spirit into his established role as a broadcaster.
This artist is part of 24 HOUR DUB: a 24-hour session of continuous dub sounds that brings together pioneers, poets, engineers, sound system architects, and a new generation of bass explorers. More info about the program can be found via leguesswho.com/24-hour-dub.
