Bold, brash, polarizing. These are the three adjectives Canada's The Globe and Mail latched onto Lido Pimienta. One could add; transgressive, traditionalist, diva, or folklorist. Embracing Afro-Indigenous in a delicate yet brazen fashion, the Columbian-Canadian songwriter and musician first rose to prominence in 2017, when her second album 'La Papessa' won the Polaris Prize. 2020's 'Miss Colombia', is a reclamation of her identity in an industry rife with racism and misogyny. On it, cumbia, electronic music, and art pop interlock and take her ecstatic hybridity to a new level.
