Gyedu-Blay Ambolley & His Sekondi Band

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley is the true originator of simigwa-do, a Ghanaian fusion of afro funk, soul and jazz. His work with the Uhuru Dance Band and the The Apagya Show Band (the latter with one-time mentor Ebo Taylor) was sometimes dubbed as hiplife, combining highlife’s multi-guitar dance band grooves with early forms of hip hop. Backed by the Sekondi band, an ultra tight alliance for the better part of the decade, Ambolley will sweep Le Guess Who? off its feet with a wide assortment of floor-filling jams.
