COSMOS Embassy Film: Lima, Peru
COSMOS Embassy Film
Buh Records is a record label based in Lima, Peru. Founded in 2004 by Luis Alvarado, the label focuses on a wide universe of experimental and unconventional music. Especially their outstanding work in archiving the history of Peruvian and Latin American experimental and avant-garde music has attracted the attention of international media.
This video documentary portrays the current moment of the underground experimental scene in Lima, which has undergone a resurgence after a long confinement due to the pandemic, all against the backdrop of a political crisis that has not yet been resolved. The film captures multiple shows at alternative DIY spaces (basements, houses) where sound experimentation and electronic parties come together. These formations of associations and collaborative economies have allowed for the emergence of many artistic collectives. If anything, this scene is defined by its eclecticism and a coexistence of genres, which has allowed for a great deal of flexibility. In the documentary, you’ll see performances and interviews with various artists and managers, reflecting on the current moment and different forms of self-management that have been recently developing. Among the featured artists are Mauricio Moquillaza, Necrosante, Carlycore, Maje Maury, Suma, Árbol, Tete Leguía, Dj Saló, Habo, Canto Villano, Karen Chalco, Macri Cáceres, Silvana Tello, MU, Kevin Salked + Gonzalo Mavila, and venues such as Casa Bagre, 1049 and El Paradero.
