أحمد [Ahmed]
Curated by Tropical Fuck Storm
During Le Guess Who? 2025, many visitors left Cloud Nine at the end of a show with a feeling of ecstasy and the desire to get more of exhilarating free jazz quartet أحمد [Ahmed]. We have good news: they are returning this year, invited by Tropical Fuck Storm. Playing music of heavy rhythm, repetition and syncopation, they started this project to excavate, reinhabit, and use anew the mid-20th century documents and fragmentary plans of the late musician Ahmed Abdul-Malik. Malik envisioned a vital, forward-leaning jazz that fused American, Arabic and East African thought, ethics and beliefs in open and experimental ways. After six albums re-imagining the work of Malik, they now turn to the material of his bandmate Thelonious Monk, as part of the group's ongoing search for future music.
This artist is part of the program curated by Tropical Fuck Storm. The post-apocalyptic acid punk disco scuzzheads have curated a sonically diverse mix featuring longtime musical inspirations, friends and collaborators; artists that they've met on the road, and acts that they've been eager to see live.
