With her beautiful mix of Cabo Verdean musical tradition and contemporary sensibility, Nancy Vieira has become one of the island’s most expressive and representative voices. Her repertoire draws on the deep tradition and memory of Cabo Verde, while embracing songs written by composers from different generations and countries, consolidated by a new generation projecting the soul of these islands into the future. Morna and batuku meet samba, fado, sophistication and pop-minded adventure, brought to life through arrangements full of subtleties, rich in swing and harmonies, and a classic ensemble of acoustic guitars, bass and percussion.
This artist is part of Sounds of Cabo Verde, a special program dedicated to the diversity of Cabo Verde music culture, its traditions and the Cabo Verdean diaspora in the Netherlands.
