Watch: Sons of Kemet perform 'Your Queen Is A Reptile' for Boiler Room & Mercury Prize
Sons Of Kemet's new album 'Your Queen Is A Reptile' (released in March via Impulse!) is the "jazz" choice for nomination in this year's Hyundai Mercury Prize. Ahead of the event, the band give a mesmerizing and exclusive performance of the album's opening track 'My Queen Is Ada Eastman'. Watch the performance below, and also take a look at our recent video portrait of Shabaka Hutchings here.
Shabaka Hutchings on the nomination: "It’s great to know that our music and our ideas will have the chance to resonate with as wide an audience as the Mercury nominations permits. Our aim is to merge the music and ways of perception associated with histories of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora to the developments happening within the London music scene and propel the results outwards to the world as a force for good."
Shabaka Hutchings curates his very own program at Le Guess Who? 2018, featuring Kadri Gopalnath, Kojey Radical, King Ayisoba, Bo Ningen, Ill Considered, Sibusile Xaba, STUFF., BCUC, The Comet is Coming, Sons of Kemet XL (a performance featuring four drummer), and more.
