U?, the freely accessible city program of Le Guess Who?, returns to Utrecht for its fourth edition. U? celebrates local and creative communities based in the Netherlands, with a strong focus on Utrecht. Our mission:
In 2024 and beyond, U? will focus more on sustainable collaborations with local and regional partners, makers and communities. The program will be divided between U? Festival and U? Projects.
U? Festival
On Saturday, 9 November, we present U? Festival: a festival playground, taking place in the Cartesius area, with a broad spectrum of programs, showcasing voices & communities from the fringe in different forms.
For U? Festival we collaborate with several locations, such as KABUL à GoGo, dB's, De Nijverheid, NAR, VOGELFREI, Hof van Cartesius, Warmoes, De Stadsjutters, De Havenloods, Kunsthal Kloof, Stadspodium de Ontspanning, Boot 122, The Village Coffee Branderij, Set-Up, EXboot and Loods Gert Wessels.
U? Projects
Besides U? Festival, we’ll also organize separate, stand-alone events in other areas and on different dates: U? Projects. All events as part of the U? Projects are collaborations with Utrecht based organizations, from grassroots collectives to cultural institutions.
For example: Centraal Museum organizes an exhibition that showcases the versatility of contemporary makers from Morocco and the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands. Specially for U? Projects, there will be an event on Sunday, 10 November, in Younity (urban sports & cultural facility for and by young people). The program includes an all-female Moroccan Gnawa band, a catwalk where designers from BOKS (youth culture center) together with some better-known fashion designers with Moroccan roots show clothing pieces, and food and music programmed by Buddy to Buddy Utrecht.
Community Curators
U? aims to collaborate intensively with a diverse selection of creative partners from Utrecht and beyond. We’re facilitating new experiences, connections, conversations and experiments with and between communities. Therefore, part of the U? program will be made by Community Curators: upcoming and eager, NL-based, curators who are deeply connected to their scene and community. More soon…
