As Nihiloxica, musician Spooky-J and producer pq harness the full force of the Nilotika Cultural Ensemble's ancient Bugandan drumming tradition of Uganda and focus it on the contemporary dance floor through a dark lens of techno sensibility.

Their new album, Source of Denial, which serves as a follow-up of their 2020 debut album Kaloli, serves as an expressive outlet for the band to voice their frustrations with the UK's hostile immigration and freedom of movement policies following the cancellation of their 2022 tour, which was riddled with visa issues. The album is released through Crammed Discs. Listen below.

"We wanted to create the sense of being in the endless, bureaucratic hell-hole of attempting to travel to a foreign country that deems itself superior to where you're from. We're focussing on the UK as that's where we've had the most trouble, but the problem goes much, much further. In this system if you have a certain passport or have even visited a certain country then you're an appropriate subject to be interrogated and insulted time and time again just to prove that you're worthy to enter, and normally this involves proving you have a good enough reason to want to leave again! The arrogance of it is unbearable. This album was a way to express our disdain towards it." - Nihiloxica

Nihiloxica performs at Le Guess Who? 2023 on Saturday, 11 November. Also performing at the festival are a.o. African Head Charge, James Holden, 3Phaz, black midi performing The Beatles, Bombino, NAH, Nok Cultural Ensemble, and many more.
