Listen to the gleaming optimistic sound of Y-Bayani & Baby Naa on their album ‘Nsie Nsie’
Y-Bayani & Baby Naa And The Band of Enlightenment, Reason & Love is a collaborative project between musicians Yussef Hussain (Y-Bayani), Naomi Addy (Baby Naa), Josie Coppola and Max Weissenfeldt (Philophon Records). Straddling the realms of reggae and Ghana’s Highlife movement into an innovative, cinematic sound that is framed by The Band of Enlightenment, Reason & Love, Y-Bayani & Baby Naa are two of the most exciting new voices of soulful reggae.
Their latest album ‘Nsie Nsie’, for which the first foundations were laid in 2012, was released earlier this year. Back then, Weissenfeldt met Jimmy Taylor (the son of Ghanaian Highlife legend Ebo Taylor) and singer and musician Y-Bayani while traveling Ghana.
Together they started recording music, which in 2018 resulted in breakthrough song 'Rehwe Mie Enyim', that features Weissenfeldt's friend and local church singer Naomi Addy (Baby Naa). This addition became the final piece of the puzzle, resulting in this nine-track boundary-pushing record that gleams in its optimism. You can listen to 'Nsie Nsie' below.
