Le Guess Who? exists to bring people together through art and music. In 2021, the international festival for boundary-crossing music and culture makes a new addition to the upcoming festival edition: U?, a new, participative and freely accessible day program created for and with the city of Utrecht.

Like Le Guess Who?, U? takes place from 11 to 14 November. While the majority of Le Guess Who? performances are within the city center, U? will expand to other neighborhoods, including Lombok, 2e Daalsebuurt, Werkspoorkwartier and Cartesius. It also marks the first time that Le Guess Who? touches down in Transwijk. In these neighborhoods, the programs are made with, or even fully by, local initiatives, entrepreneurs, social institutions and community centers. The programs of former Le Guess Who? satellite events such as Le Mini Who? and Lombok Festival will also be included in U?.
With U?, Le Guess Who? takes a next step in its local collaborations and further promotes its festival mission throughout the city of Utrecht: presenting music and culture that has the power to enrich lives. In upcoming years, more local initiatives will be invited to participate in U?, and the program will include even more neighborhoods.
On Thursday, 11 November, U? kicks off with the revealing of a public art program: ten artists will present works in different public spaces in the city of Utrecht. The full program for U?, to be revealed in late October, will also include a local food market featuring many different cuisines at Lombok’s mosque square, and tours through the Ulu Mosque; the art auction BUY OR BURN, where works that aren’t sold will be set aflame on the spot; music from upcoming Dutch acts in locations such as boxing school Jimmy’s Gym, the coffee roastery of The Village Coffee & Music, and the spectacular Muntgebouw, considered one of the most beautiful national monuments in Utrecht. U? will also present several exhibitions, including work from visual artist Koen Delaere, who also made paintings for the official Le Guess Who? 2021 festival artwork.

Le Guess Who? heeft het doel om mensen samen te brengen door middel van muziek en cultuur. Het internationale festival voor grensverleggende muziek en cultuur voegt komende editie een nieuw onderdeel toe, genaamd U?. Een nieuw, verbindend en gratis toegankelijk dagprogramma gemaakt voor en mét de stad.
U? vindt net als Le Guess Who? plaats van 11-14 november. Waar Le Guess Who? grotendeels plaatsvindt binnen de singel, zal U? zich ook uitbreiden naar de wijken daarbuiten. Naast de Binnenstad, Lombok, 2e Daalsebuurt, Werkspoorkwartier en Cartesius, gaat Le Guess Who? nu ook voor het eerst naar Transwijk. In deze wijken wordt programma gemaakt met of zelfs geheel door lokale initiatieven, ondernemers, maatschappelijke instellingen en buurtcentra. De programmering van voormalige satellietevenementen Le Mini Who? en Lombok Festival wordt ook ondergebracht in U?.
Met U? draagt Le Guess Who? haar missie om mensen te verrijken met inspirerende muziek en cultuur nog verder uit naar de stad Utrecht. Het festival zet daarnaast een volgende stap in de lokale verankering. Ook de komende jaren worden lokale initiatieven uitgenodigd om bij U? aan te sluiten en breidt het festival uit naar meer wijken.
Het volledige programma van U? wordt eind oktober bekendgemaakt. Verwacht onder meer een eetmarkt met eten uit diverse keukens op het moskeeplein in Lombok en rondleidingen in de Ulu Moskee; de kunstveiling BUY OR BURN, een veiling waarbij werken die niet worden verkocht live worden verbrand; muziek van opkomende Nederlandse acts in de ring van boksschool Jimmy’s Gym, in de koffiebranderij van The Village Coffee & Music en bij De Zware Jongens in het Muntgebouw; en exposities, met werk van onder andere Koen Delaere, de kunstenaar die dit jaar schilderijen maakte voor het festival artwork van Le Guess Who?. Op donderdag 11 november trapt U? af met de onthulling van een public art-programma: tien kunstenaars presenteren installaties in de publieke ruimte op verschillende plekken in de stad.
