Celebrated Israeli singer, musician and producer Dudu Tassa and award-winning composer and guitarist Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead, The Smile) have teamed up for the collaborative album Jarak Qaribak, which is released today via World Circuit Records.
Jarak Qaribak translates, more or less, as ‘Your Neighbour Is Your Friend. It’s an expansive, inclusive sentiment. The songs on the album, and the singers, are drawn from all over the Middle East – and, in keeping with the theme established by the album’s title, each singer takes a turn at a tune from a country other than their own.
The album is produced by Tassa & Greenwood and mixed by Nigel Godrich; listen below:
At Le Guess Who? 2023, the duo will present their album live on stage. It's the second time that Jonny Greenwood performs at the festival with a collaborative project: in 2016, Junun feat. Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood and the Rajasthan Express closed off the festival in style. Relive that performance here.
'Jarak Qaribak' by Dudu Tassa and Jonny Greenwood can be experienced live at Le Guess Who? 2023 on Thursday, 9 November. Also performing that day are Slauson Malone 1, SANAM, African Head Charge, Ale Hop & Laura Robles present Agua Dulce, and more.
