For the first episode of COSMOS on Refuge Worldwide in 2026, we've cued up a special all-originals mix by Seyðisfjörður’s (Iceland) Austin James Christ and a sonic meditation on the aura of Mediterranean gardens by film- and radiomaker Tania Feghali (NTS).
Austin Thomasson is a Chicago-based visual and sound artist. Together with his wife, he conducts the Flat Earth Film Festival, based in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland, where he is also a member of Heima Art Collective and a contributor to Seyðisfjörður Community Radio. He releases music under Austin James Christ. This project is born out of the death of his mother, Sue Jean, to track his journey into grief. He now continues it as a means to cheekily spit the joy from a life-well-loved back into mortality’s face. For his mix on Refuge Worldwide, he put together an hour of his original material (plus a few choice cuts) for your listening pleasure.
Tania Feghali is an Italo-Lebanese independent filmmaker, radio host (NTS Radio, Radio AlHara), and sound curator. Her work encompasses personal documentaries, commissioned films, sound curation, archival research, and visual reportages. Her practice revolves around film portraits, documenting the genesis of artists’ creative worlds and journeys, with a particular focus on contemporary scenes, avant-garde movements, and improvisational practices.
For this special broadcast called "The Mediterranean Garden", Tania and her co-host John Also Bennett weave together music, voiceovers, and reflections on the Mediterranean as main influences on their lives and work.
