Following rave reviews of their debut performance at Intonal Festival, BITOI (Bass Is The Original Instrument) is steadily capturing the curiosity of audiences across the globe. Helmed by Cassius Lambert, BITOI have now unveiled their debut EP -O-.
Joining Lambert is a choir composed of Alexandra Shabo, Anja Tietze Lahrmann, and Lise Kroner. As BITOI, the Swedish-Ethiopian composer explores the intersection of tradition and his own creative boundaries. Lambert’s approach involves merging the timeless instrument of the voice with the relatively new electric bass. With -O-, he hopes to portray a unique combination of fragility and power, which is symbolic of his personal artistic path. Listen below.
BITOI perform at Le Guess Who? 2023 on Sunday, 12 November. Also performing at the festival are a.o. Maroulita de Kol, Pankisi Ensemble, and Nyokabi Kariũki.
