The Politics of Culture: Responsibility in the Cultural Sector
Sound & Culture Summit
What do cultural responsibility and independence mean in the arts and culture sector, and what do they require in practice? This talk examines on the one hand how artists, institutions and community organizations can pursue creative freedom while dealing with financial pressure and complex systems tied to harmful politics. On the other hand, it examines where the responsibilities of the cultural sector lie when it comes to speaking up against these harmful politics and systems.
Music producer and cultural manager Branislav Jovančević facilitates a conversation about power dynamics in funding and partnerships, how to protect artistic expression, and concrete strategies for building models of autonomy that sustain work over time, without compromising integrity or purpose.
