The Art of Dissent: Political Expression in the Music Industry

Creating art with a political message means using it as more than reflection: it becomes intervention. It carries ethical responsibility and invites to do more listening, questioning and exchange. Through different artistic forms, lived realities can be translated into something people can encounter, share and respond to.
Some doors open immediately: producers, venues and communities looking for meaning find you faster. Collaborations become values-based and audiences show up ready to discuss, not just dance. But other doors might close just as quickly, as brands, platforms or institutions may prefer "neutrality", or they may fear backlash.
How do artists navigate the complexities of political expression in art? How can we resist complicity in cultural production and make it more ethical? We tackle this subject together with anadisciplinary artist Rohan Ayinde, activist and BDS movement co-founder Omar Barghouti, poet Lillian Allen and Palestinian MC, singer and producer Shadia Mansour.
