Serokolo 7
With sped-up rhythms, deepened kicks and heavy sub-bass, Serokolo 7 earned the nickname "Basskiller" and a reputation as the King of Mapanta, the traditional wedding music of Limpopo, South Africa. The producer, DJ and sound-system operator cut his teeth on Bacardi house before reinventing Mapanta, mentoring the next wave of local producers into a crew called Maramfa. His debut album Maramfa Musick Pro is a triumph of celebratory and pulsating electronic music, in which he splices together samples of animal howls with hammering marimba percussion, drum n bass and breakbeat rhythms alongside snatches of traditional vocal melodies.
