Richard Dawson has been busy time-traveling. The British folk master began his journey in 2017’s pre-medieval ‘Peasant’, continued onto the present day with ‘2020’, and has now arrived at our crumbling future with 2022’s ‘The Ruby Cord’, released a year prior to his Le Guess Who? performance. Immediately, the record greets us with the 41-minute-long opener ‘The Hermit’, perhaps Dawson’s most ambitious feat of songwriting yet. From there, we wander into the fantasy world of augmented reality. For his Le Guess Who? performance, Dawson will be playing solo in a church, further underlining his music’s mystical quality.
