Marielle Groven
COSMOS
Multi-instrumentalist and composer Marielle Groven combines traditional and experimental musical elements that are freely integrated within long-form improvised pieces. On her debut solo album Sur l'bord, she explores the music of her Acadian heritage: she is descended from the 17th century French settlers of the East Coast of Canada. Folk music elements are abstracted from their source and woven into a fragile, rough-cut sound world informed by her previous work as a composer of contemporary chamber music. Her sonic approach on the violin draws on the dynamic and unpredictable nature of analog electronic sound generators like modular synthesizers, no-input mixers and radio static as inspirations for destabilizing and transforming the music.
