Vocalist Martin Kanja (or Lord Spikeheart), has become a nominal head in the Kenyan metal scene - first with speed-core group Lust of a Dying Breed, and later alongside Le Guess Who? alumnus Duma. Now that the latter is defunct, Lord Spikeheart has risen from the ashes with ‘The Adept’, a nail-biting record showered with praise by The Guardian, BBC Radio, NTS, The Quietus, and countless others. Both pulling from and revamping death metal tradition, Lord Spikeheart’s debut is most memorable for the earth-shattering vocals of Kanja. It’s the chilling sound of soul atoms being split.
