Let's Kii: Celebrating ballroom culture in Utrecht
"Ballroom started underground. Built by Black and Latin queer and trans communities in New York, it was a space to be free, to showcase talent, and to find chosen family when the world outside was not giving us what we needed."
Over the past years, ballroom culture has carved out a place for itself in the Netherlands, and for the last six years, Utrecht has been one of its homes. Utrecht Ballroom Scene has built a community here: weekly Voguing classes, community events, balls, and programs that uplift and center queer and trans people of color.
During U? 2026, we are celebrating that legacy. Utrecht Ballroom Scene presents a living exhibition of art created by members of the ballroom scene, a recollection of photos from the history of the ballroom scene in Utrecht, stunning Voguing performances, spoken word, and a DJ and MC to make the program hot. If you’re new to ballroom, this is where you can see the culture alive and showcased by its members. If you’re already in the community, come and celebrate this milestone with your people!
