Henri Texier Quartet
Legendary double bassist Henri Texier is a musician who has evolved alongside six decades of jazz. After cutting his teeth as pianist in Parisian night clubs, he became a bassist, performing with jazz artists and exploring a range of instruments to forge his own take hard bop and free jazz—experimental yet warm and melodic—that established him as a pioneer of avant-garde jazz in France. His 1977 album Varech stands as a defining statement of his legacy, taking his double bass into uncharted territory and blending avant-garde jazz with Celtic, African, Indian and Middle Eastern elements for a singular landmark that’s as funky as it is groundbreaking. At Le Guess Who? 2026, he brings his quartet featuring his son Sebastien Texier on alto saxophone, pianist Bruno Angelini and drummer Gautier Garrigue.
