Bandung-based community radio NORRM and the LaMunai record store provide us with an introduction to Indonesia’s eclectic and diverse underground sounds.
Their collaborative film captures the creative process of a broad variety of musicians: from Mother Bank, a group of housewives from rural Java, to celebrated punk outfit, The Kuda from Bogor – a city currently in the spotlight for its rising independent music scene–, and from Kadapat, an electronic-gamelan group from the Island of the Gods, Bali. to jazz prodigy turned experimental noise sensation KUNTARI.
This 55-minute documentary aims to showcase these musicians’ ways of thinking and their respective recording process in their own spaces. It’s a deep dive into the intricate differences between these artists, giving us the full spectrum of those pleasant and wondrous sounds of Indonesian contemporary music
