Thanks to her peculiar use of tapes to manipulate recordings of everyday objects and electronic instruments, Mexican photographer, composer, and video artist Concepción Huerta has a darker take on ambient and noise music than many of her peers. As a multidisciplinary artist she is, above all else, drawn to relationships - between silence and sound, politics and bodies, and the physical and psychological. Fundamentally, Huerta’s practice, as heard on this year’s ‘The Earth Has Memory’, is focused on exploring the core of sound, and how it comes alive through analog and digital processes.
