Playlist: LGW24 curated by Mabe Fratti

With her hypnotic pieces, Mabe Fratti combines contemporary genres such as shoegaze and dreampop with ancestral influences from Gregorian chants to Sephardic music. Transforming these ingredients into a powerful whole, she has become a fixture in Mexico’s thriving experimental music scene. This year, Mabe Fratti returns to Le Guess Who?, both as a festival curator and as a performer.

The playlist features the “father of Mexican experimental music” Germán Bringas; legendary Cumbia and Gaita ensemble Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto; Blanco Teta, a band from the burgeoning queer Latinx scene; London-based vocal group Shards, who will perform solo and together with Mabe Fratti; Mexican artist Concepción Huerta, with a dark take on ambient and noise music; and Fuensanta, one of the most prominent and distinct young voices emerging from the experimental music scene in Europe and Latin America.

Furthermore, you can explore London-based Mexican violinist, composer, and improviser Gibrana Cervantes, who, thanks to her metal background, is unafraid to use noise as a compositional tool; Luz luz luz!, one of Mexico City’s most exciting experimental punk outfit; M. Takara & Carla Boregas, who have been making strides in the Brazilian music scene for years; Military Genius, the pseudonym of Canadian musician Bryce Cloghesy (Crack Cloud); and the duo Titanic, which consists of Mabe Fratti and Hector Tosta.

Note: Mabe Fratti's curation also features vocal artist and magnetic tape manipulator Rodrigo Ambriz, but he is not included in the playlist as his music is not available on Spotify or Apple Music.
