Brìghde Chaimbeul
Thursday

Two-thirds into Caroline Polachek’s ‘Blood and Butter’ (from the ground-pushing album ‘Desire, I Want To Turn Into You’), an explosive bagpipe solo erupts; behind it is none other than Brìghde Chaimbeul, one of the instrument’s most exciting new players. Chaimbeul is the leading purveyor of experimental Celtic music and of the Scottish smallpipes, a bellows-powered set of bagpipes with a double-note drone. Her technique, which emphasizes the textural drones of the instrument, is best experienced on her second album ‘Carry Them with Us’, and has garnered her widespread admiration from the critic, the public, and her peers.
