Betsayda Machado & DJ Babatr
Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia
At the invitation of Chromesthesia, another special collaboration takes the stage at this year’s Le Guess Who?. Betsayda Machado is an iconic Venezuelan folk artist who has been initiating listeners on the alluring Venezuelan Afro-Soul genre ‘Tambor’ for years. DJ Babatr, on the other hand, is responsible for forging the club genre known as Raptor House in the early nineties and noughties in his home city of Caracas, Venezuela. They may appear worlds apart, but Machado and Babatr come together under the same mission; to express the artistry and creativity of Venezuela's most marginalized.
British-Egyptian award-winning social and intellectual historian Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia, a 13-hour durational performance. From Rio to Cairo, Miami to Kampala, Chromesthesia tracks Afro-diasporic rhythms and explores the history that undergirds Afro-descendant electronic music.
