On Friday, 8 November 2024, the compilation album Chromesthesia: the Colour of Sound Vol. 1 is set to be released. Brainchild of British-Egyptian historian Hannah Elsisi (NYU AD, Cambridge), Chromesthesia—aptly named "the colour of sound"— tracks afro-diasporic rhythms from the Whole Mangrove World. Now, the first single from the album is revealed: a special collaboration LYZZA and DJ Babatr, titled Sucio.
From Rio to Cairo, Miami to Kampala, Chromesthesia tracks Afro-diasporic rhythms and explores the history that undergirds Afro-descendant electronic music. The popular music of the 21st century is virtually impossible without shared global experiences of migration and displacement due to a.o. war, climate change, economic collapse, and gender violence.
On Saturday, 9 November, Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia, a 13-hour durational performance at Le Guess Who? 2024. Elsisi’s curation will feature the choreography of Congolese performer Natisa Exocé Kasongo combined with live visuals by GKZ Studio, as well as performances by a.o. Sho Madjozi, Yaya Bey, Sonic Interventions, Lamin Fofana, DJ Babatr in collaboration with singer Betsayda Machado, Kelman Duran b2b Nick León, Maurice Louca Quartet, and many more.
