As part of Calm Roots, rising London label Touching Bass is curating for this year’s Le Guess Who? a showcase of Cameroonian-born, Paris-based artist Astrønne. Astrønne’s double single ‘Siempre : Toujours’, released this Valentine’s Day, is a perfect sequel to soul-bearing 2023 single ‘Reconnect’ that came out on Touching Bass; once more, her healing voice glides over the gently plucked guitar strings. Love trespasses borders of language, as she delicately performs sweet nothings in French and Spanish. We listen and understand it fully, eagerly anticipating more of Astrønne's excellent music, which gradually mesh jazz, R&B, and alt-folk.
