Detroit-based multidisciplinary artist Ahya Simone's practice is populated by a careful probing of Black identity, aesthetics, and community building - and it is crawling with exciting references. Brought up in a church choir, Simone later made the harp her instrument of choice; but her bid to go past classical (as she effortlessly fuses R&B, soul, jazz, and experimental sounds) caught the eye of many of her peers, including Kelela, who featured her on TAKE ME A_PART, THE REMIXES. Simone’s unique artistry is not limited to recording, as she is also an emerging filmmaker and co-creator of award-winning series Femme Queen Chronicles.
