609 is an atmospheric theater piece with a sound-centered approach. It unfolds through sensorial imagery, movement research and six visceral musical compositions.
Inspired by magical realism and the world-building of eco feminism, 609 creates an in-between space/reality from within, through a voice practice called "fabulating spells." An intimate world of enchantment is built in which everything is part of everything and everything is equally worthy. The work attempts to 1) invite the audience into a state of belonging, through what writer, scholar, poet, activist and educator Alexis Pauline Gumbs defines as listening: “a transformative and revolutionary resource that requires quieting down and tuning in”; and 2) blur dualistic conceptions of terrenal-sacred, joy-grief, you-me.
