Choreographed by Elise Richards, SHINE focuses on an underrepresented group within the Dutch performing arts: young Black hip-hop dancers, particularly women. By treating their stories as the norm rather than the exception, the performance contributes to a more inclusive and diverse performing arts landscape. By connecting theatre with hip-hop culture and the community, we welcome a broad and diverse audience that often does not feel engaged by traditional theatre offerings.
SHINE explores what it means to be of African descent in the Netherlands, with an emphasis on liberation, authenticity, joy, connection, and vulnerability. It is a 15-minute performance featuring 2 dancers.
