For U? 2024, Hof van Cartesius presents a diverse program created together with the artists that are located in this unique circular workspace for creative entrepreneurs.
Photographer Rogier Boogaard documented two artists who will be part of this year's festival program. Last week we highlighted Sophie Wantia, today we present artist and inventor Vincent Schoutsen.
Vincent Schoutsen is part of Het Uitvindersgilde, a collective of six sustainable entrepreneurs providing technical support to the creative industries, which is located at Hof van Cartesius. They explore the boundaries of disciplines, combining art with engineering, technology with craft, and creativity with construction.
Vincent was involved in Hof van Cartesius from the start. Together with Het Uitvindergilde, he got in contact with the initiators. The collective was looking for a place where they could go - a place with room to create and where you can make noise.
As a performer and organizer he's been unmissable in the cultural explorations of Hof van Cartesius over the years. You might recognize him as the One Man Acid Band. Last year, Vincent premiered his music machine, Vinnierague, at U?. The machine was made from old machine interfaces and spews out the sickest jungle breaks.
On Saturday, 9 November, you can visit his art installation, a set of art lanterns, in the court in front of the Warmoes at Hof van Cartesius. And at his workshop you can attend the performances by Zelfkant, Laura Palmer, and Birth of Manuel, programmed by Antenne Utrecht.
Hof van Cartesius
Hof van Cartesius is based on a green and sustainable concept where the pavilions were built around a green collective courtyard. Inside the Hof van Cartesius, you can find more than 110 members who also take part in the design, management, and programming of Hof van Cartesius. On Saturday, 9 November, several events are taking place, including workshops, art installations, music performances, and more.
