Every week, we’ll bring you a must-hear track from the Le Guess Who? 2018 line-up. This week, we pick Ancient Shapes, a new project fronted by songwriter Daniel Romano. Always having been a free and restless spirit, Romano's new brainchild was born out of a twenty-minute session and will please the punk rock as well as pure pop lovers.
'Public Hymns' offers a perfect introduction to the band's sound: it's unpretentious, but thrillingly catchy, showing off a soft spot for Ramones-like songwriting. Ancient Shapes prove there's nothing wrong with a not-even-two-minute-long song, filled with blistering power chords, pounding drums, and razor edged vocals. Despite the merciless punch though, 'Public Hymns' is at its heart mostly a fierce and melodic power pop song.
We've collected all our weekly tracks in one playlist; listen via Spotify, Deezer of Apple Music here.
Ancient Shapes perform at Le Guess Who 2018 together with a.o. The Breeders, Mudhoney, Lydia Lunch's Big Sexy Noise, Bo Ningen, Please The Trees, Crack Cloud, Psychic Ills, FACS, Kikagaku Moyo, and many more.
