During Le Guess Who? 2018, the Portuguese platform Canal180 traveled to Utrecht to capture a film in collaboration with the festival. Titled 'Representing the Underrepresented', it reveals the story and ideology behind Le Guess Who? and, following its March 29 premiere at MIL Festival in Lisbon, the film is now available to watch online.
The film touches on subjects like presenting music and cultures that are underrepresented; the importance of diversity in general, and also within the festival programming; thoughts on the term 'world music’; algorithms in relation to music; and the role of marketing in relation to these topics.
‘Representing the Underrepresented’ features contributions by festival artists like Shabaka Hutchings (Sons of Kemet & The Comet is Coming), Richard Fearless (Death in Vegas), Jacco Gardner, Vashti Bunyan, Go Kurosawa (Kikagaku Moyo), and several members of the Le Guess Who? team.
