Not Waving & Dark Mark is the blood pact between the ink-black, minimal productions of Alessio Natalizia and the smoke-suffused vocal drawl of alt-rock minstrel Mark Lanegan. Natalizia releases music through the minimal synth/post punk Not Waving moniker and is one half of the Kompakt techno ambient duo Walls whose self-titled debut album picked up MOJO's Electronic Album Of The Year. Lanegan started making music in the late 1980s with The Screaming Trees; later collaborations saw him pairing up with a.o. Josh Homme, Kurt Cobain, Moby, and Melissa Auf der Maur.

The duo's shared creative dominion inhabits an incredible riches of influences, ranging from the gloom-ridden dirges of latter-day Scott Walker to the windswept, arcane energy of Moebius and Popol Vuh. First collaborative album 'Downwelling' runs deep with quality, and uses unconventional and skeletal musical structures to tell engaging stories. This is an album that subtly challenges your ideas of music's emotional potential. Listen to the album in full below.
