New York City singer-songwriter Joanna Sternberg is having a stellar 2023 so far. Earlier this year, their second album ‘I’ve Got Me’ was showered with praise for its personal and openhearted character. Now, the artists releases their new single 'Neighbors' via Fat Possum Records.
'Neighbors' was recorded at Sternberg’s living room piano by Chris Miller, and offers a stunning evolution of Sternberg’s distinctive sound. Listen below.
"I wrote this song about my social anxiety and how it manifests in the context of the high rise building I live in. I often am unsure of so many social rules and social cues that I just wind up either shutting down completely, or acting like an over-friendly almost muppet-like version of a human. This song is definitely intended to be sort of tongue-in-cheek/silly (I am very inspired by Randy Newman!) I performed this song at my piano in my living room and my very multi-talented friend Chris Miller recorded and mastered it!" - Joanna Sternberg
Joanna Sternberg performs at Le Guess Who? 2023 on Thursday, 9 November. Also performing that same day are a.o. Dudu Tassa and Jonny Greenwood, Brìghde Chaimbeul, Lost Girls, SANAM, Slauson Malone 1, and many more.
