For the March episode of COSMOS' monthly, globe-traversing radio show on Refuge Worldwide, we're going from Mexico’s experimental underground all the way to the roots of psychedelic music in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This time, we have sourced mixes compiled and presented by our COSMOS partners Otono, a cultural space and online platform for experimental sounds in Mexico City, and Lamunai Records, a record store and label from Jakarta, Indonesia with a knack for the psychedelic undercurrent of Indonesian music from the 1950s to the current era.
Otono (Mexico City, MX)
Close collaborators of COSMOS Embassy Sonido Confirmacion, Otono originally emerged as a hub dedicated to showcasing different ends of the musical spectrum in a public space. On their journey, the event space evolved into a transmedia production house, booking/curation agency and music label with a complementary online platform, as well as a content consultancy.
Lamunai Records, (Jakarta, Indonesia)
The second hour is curated by Lamunai Records from Jakarta, who have co-produced our COSMOS Embassy film about the scene in Bandung, Indonesia.
Like many of their peers, Lamunai Records have established their business by applying the crate digger sensibilities needed for any self-respecting record store to the practice of unearthing gems from Indonesia’s rich music history, and connecting the dots with contemporary releases.
